Over three days, at Scholey Park, Tattershall, Lincolnshire, festival goers will have the opportunity to enjoy everything from Heavy Metal to Mindfulness. Think these things can't work together? We're here to prove they do, and Smash the Stereotype!
What is Smash the Stereotype all about?
We’re a not for profit which promotes positive mental health via the arts and music. We came up with the idea for the festival as all of our team are neurodivergent, and I personally (Dale Tyler, I’m the creative director) basically had a meltdown at Alton Towers because it was too over stimulating, then had to leave a music event because too much was going on at once – plus people were being really inconsiderate to each other. However, I love live music, especially rock and punk, and realised that there must be loads of other people like me who want to go and enjoy all the parts of a music festival but with the option to escape and decompress if they need to. And so the concept for Smash the Stereotype was born.
Part of what we want to do via this event is to make people aware of what being neurodiverse is. A lot of people have no idea that it’s not just having an obsession with action figures or being able to do complicated maths in our heads. For me personally, it’s actually seeming completely ‘normal’, but once away from people you need to escape from adulting for several days as your people battery had been drained. Or losing it if several songs are playing at once or someone is shouting for no good reason in a pub. Everyone’s experience of being ND is extremely different, so we’d love to help educate and raise awareness, in order to hopefully make the world a better place for Neurodivergent people whilst helping Neurotypical people make a bit more sense of us!
Smash the Stereotype Festival aims to provide an alternative for those of us that don’t enjoy the mainstream, whilst being a great, fun and inclusive experience for the Neurotypicals close to us.
The event will run from 8th to 10th August 2025 at Scholey Park, Tattershall. Camping will be available and we will have loads of food, bars and vendors. We are working in collaboration with Yellowbelly Records, Lincolnshire’s largest independent record label, as well as Stuart Cooling who is an expert on all things mindfulness and alternative healing.
We are looking to showcase up and coming bands from local areas, as well as adding in a few more established from outside the county.
We are hoping to get Arts Council funding to host this, so if we do, we’ll be able to make it bigger and better.
