About this Event

Description

PVCA Empowers Advocacy in Early Childhood Education: Insights from NAEYC PLI 2024 As early childhood educators, we bring unique perspectives and knowledge to influence the profession's greater good, and our contributions are critical to the nationwide movement of advocates and the advancement of equity and social justice in ECE. Through the Practicioners Voice of CA, I developed my leadership skills and obtained practical tools to become an empowered advocate. In this Smart Start session, I will present my advocacy action plan: Challenges in the Transitional Kindergarten's implementation; I will share my enrichment experience as a PVCA participant and my insights from the 2024 NAEYC Professional Learning Institute.

Ana Aguilar Carrasco is a Venezuelan immigrant mother of two, influenced by intersections of class, gender, and ethnicity. Guided by family, freedom, and knowledge, I overcame barriers to become a first-generation college graduate. As an immigrant, I value democracy, freedom, and equality. Because I believe in the power of people to drive change, I advocate for social change and early childhood education. I have performed multiple roles in the ECE field: volunteer, preschool aide, associate teacher, afterschool coordinator, lead teacher, college staff, and TK bilingual teacher. Because of my unique background, I can tell that several issues in the ECE systems affect children, families, and educators.
