Welcome to the Smart Cities and Communities Workshop

As Canada's population grows, more cities are turning to digital technologies for solutions to complex problems.
The Western Academy for Advanced Research is hosting an all-day event that brings together diverse perspectives on the future of urban planning and design. Be prepared to explore cutting edge applications, leading developments, and emerging challenges in the growing field of smart cities and communities.
Participants will have an opportunity to engage with leading smart city thinkers Ursula Eicker (Concordia), Jason Gilliland (Western University), Mustafa Gul (University of Alberta), Burak Kantarci (University of Ottawa), Kent Larson (MIT), Katharine Willis (University of Plymouth), Qiang John Ye (University of Calgary).
