A collection of short films about fun and friendship between trans and gender non-conforming people.
About this Event

For our third Small Trans Film Club we're lighting up the dark of winter with a celebration of trans fun and friendship! We'll have yummy pizza, cosy lighting, brilliant books and most importantly, five short films by trans filmmakers to share with you.

These transsexual trios and bunches of besties range across ages, places, genders and sexualities, but all unite to prove we are stronger, sexier, happier together.

In a fun formatting twist, we'll have three 8-20 minute short films (with blurbs below) interspersed with two 1 minute short films by Frances Arpaia, each capturing on 16mm moments of intimacy and excitement at trans picnics and beach parties - a little something sweet to keep us going until we can break out our own picnic blankets in the warmer seasons.

Tickets are limited due to venue capacity.

The Small Trans Film Club is free to attend; if you'd like to make a one-time or recurring donation towards the Small Trans Library's community events or mutual aid fund you can learn more here.

BROS BEFORE (2022, 19m, dir. Henry Hanson)

Elijah and Billy are two trans bros who just happen to enjoy jerking off together - in a straight way! But when Billy starts dating a woman, Elijah must come to terms with his feelings for Billy and his own burgeoning homosexuality.

DOROTHY'S DAY OUT (2022, 8m, dir. Edijs Snejersons)

A budding confrontation between two gender non-conforming young people and a wide-eyed septuagenarian diffuses into a charming and vibrant afternoon as the youths recognise one of their own under the layers of fear and shyness shrouding Dorothy.

BONDE (2019, 18m, dir. Asaph Luccas)

Three young black friends from a Heliópolis favela unite against the odds for a night of dancing, delight and self-defence in the queer nightlife scene of São Paulo.

ITSBY BITSY TEENY WEENY (2017, 1m) and LET'S GO TO THE TRANS LADIES PICNIC! (2015, 1m, dir. Frances Arpaia)

These two micro-short films by experimental filmmaker and video shitposter Frances Arpaia are irreverently edited and nakedly sincere snapshots of trans women having fun and expressing love for one another across a day at the beach and an afternoon in the park.
