We will explore creative research in the textile archive: errors, abrasion, edges and fray, loss areas, etymologies, and omissions.
About this Event

Please join poet and visual artist Jen Bervin and Helen Louise Allen Textile Collection Research Director Sophie Pitman for an immersive workshop focused on close reading of a selection of fragments from the collection. Slow looking at different scales of magnification, we will explore textile thinking and open-ended approaches to creative research in the archive: enlivening errors, abrasion, edges and fray, loss areas, etymologies, and omissions.

Excerpts from writers and artists including Emily Dickinson, Sonya Clark, Stephanie Syjuko, Danielle Vogel, Sadiya Hartman, Tiya Miles, and Susan Howe’s Spontaneous Particulars: The Telepathy of Archives (2014).
