Small Bites & Sound Bites™: Spirit of Survival

As the nation observes Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and Sickle Cell Awareness Month, L. Bell Productions is bringing together food, music, and storytelling to share the stories of families forever impacted by these diseases.

On Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026, at 5:30 PM, L. Bell Productions, in partnership with The Children’s Hospital Volunteers, will host Small Bites & Sound Bites™: Spirit of Survival at the Oklahoma History Center.

This immersive benefit will feature a 10-course tasting experience where each course is connected to the music and story of the Featured Frequencies.

Small Bites & Sound Bites™ is a unique event series created by L. Patrice Bell using food, music, and storytelling to offer an intimate, artfully human look at leadership and community. Think chef’s table meets listening party meets live podcast.

This iteration of the event will center the stories of two Featured Frequencies: Nadia McGahee and Amari Whitaker.

McGahee is currently in pursuit of a kidney transplant due to complications from a medulloblastoma diagnosis at age 7. Whitaker, co-owner of Not Cho Cheesecake bakery, will share her lifelong experience of living with sickle cell disease and her ongoing recovery from a sickle cell-related hip replacement.

Funds raised will be donated toward McGahee's kidney transplant expenses and Whitaker's ongoing physical therapy. Remaining proceeds will be donated to The Children’s Hospital Volunteers, Inc. to support the families of children fighting cancer and sickle cell disease.

To help transform their stories, Chef Jeremy Johnson, Owner of Kitchen Table Catering Co. and Chief Culinary Officer at the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, will serve as the featured chef.

Ian Bennett of The Study Wine Pub in Oklahoma City will serve as the event’s featured sommelier.

This event is about storytelling through all the senses. We hope this event will shed light on the realities of childhood cancer, sickle cell disease, and the ripple effects these illnesses have on individuals, families, and entire communities.
