Kunst
- I vinteren 1872 steg vandstanden i Seinen.

__________
SLOW – AN EVENING ABOUT WATER
Immerse yourself in art, talks, conversations, music and food, when Glyptoteket once again presents Slow and dives into the theme ‘Water’.
Based on the new special exhibition with artist Alia Farid, we explore water as a condition of life – and as a political weapon and pressured resource.
Come and discover how water has shaped our worlds since ancient times, determining how people settle, organize societies and distribute power. Delve with us into floods, foam births and Roman aqueducts – and how parched date palm plantations are connected to today's climate crisis and geopolitical conflicts.

PROGRAM
Welcome and refreshments
- Enjoy a free welcome beer from Carlsberg
- Throughout the evening you can buy snacks and dinner prepared by former Michelin chef Lasse Askov

Music
Experience Kira Skov, sing up the Winter Garden with a tailor-made set that revolves around the theme of water
Listen to waves and drops when pianist Louise Pump, a student at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, plays Une barque sur l’océana by Ravel and Raindrop Prelude by Chopin

Conversation and talks
- Curator Anna Kærsgaard Gregersen talks about Alia Farid’s works that revolve around the impact of the oil industry on ecosystems and the role of water in the geopolitical power struggle
- Meet senior researcher Lars Erslev Andersen (Danish Institute for International Studies) and journalist Jakob Sheikh (Institute for Human Rights) in a conversation about the history of the Arabian Gulf, the importance of rivers and water resources as a means of power
- Listen as archaeologist Anna Wirenfeldt Minor talks about the importance of aqueducts for health, prosperity and power in the Roman Empire

Art
- In the exhibition A Sounding of the Earth, Alia Farid connects ancient artifacts with the global oil industry and examines how ecosystems and life forms are shaped by political forces. Get an introduction to the exhibition before you explore it yourself
- Learn about the transformative power of water as we take a closer look at The Birth of Venus, which took place in a union of violence and beauty
- In the winter of 1872, the water level in the Seine rose. Sisley painted the work Flooding at Port-Marly when the water was at its highest. He did not only paint water, but a catastrophe.
- The land between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers in present-day Iraq is often called the cradle of civilization. Agriculture arose here around 9,000 BC and various magnificent cultures flourished thereafter. Hear about princes and kings, farmers and traders, as well as fertility goddesses, water gods and mythical creatures

Workshop
- Amulet Workshop Make a protective, magical bead net, inspired by Alia Farid's work Knotted Net NME MA4240 in the Winter Garden
