Feel like a bagel, lox and schmear? Or a matzo ball soup and laktes? Get a taste of classic Jewish deli flavours this August at Schragels Deli as well as a sneak peek inside their bagel factory in Wong Chuk Hang, in Hong Kong’s Southside.

Schragels, started by Rebecca Schrage, has been serving fresh and delicious bagels since in 2014. Learn how she crafts her authentic New York-style bagels, which are traditionally hand-rolled, kettle-boiled and stone-baked daily. It is a recipe that has been passed down through many generations, including her paternal grandparents who operated Jewish delicatessens in New York for many years.

Exclusive for Slow Food Hong Kong, Schrage is opening the doors of her factory for a rare chance to see how her chewy and delicious rolls are made. She will personally led the tour and explain the process. Time and space permitting, the kids-friendly event may allow for participants to roll their own bagel.

The second part of the event continues at Schragels’ newest location in Tsim Sha Tsui, at 2 Austin Avenue, for a group lunch to indulge in quality bagels as well as other delicious deli items on her menu. It will be like just like visiting New York on an Sunday afternoon and noshing on some kosher treats.

Schragels’ bagels come in different sizes and flavours, from plain, poppy seed, sesame, onion, cinnamon raisin, and the everything (sesame, poppy seed and onions). The array of bagel sandwiches includes Loxy Lady (smoked salmon, scallion schmear, capers, red onion), the Big Apple (roasted turkey, honey and pecan schmear, sliced green apple), and the Seinfeld-inspired The Elaine (tuna salad, lettuce, tomato).
