Slow Bal Workshop Afternoon in Rotterdam
Looking for a dance that brings you joy and freedom on the floor? On Sunday, May 17, we’re hosting Slow Bal workshops, specially designed for beginners!
Slow Bal is a partner dance to jazz music from the 1940s. It invites you to truly be present in the moment. The slower tempo gives you space to play with the music, explore your own movement, and deepen the connection with your partner.
These Foundation workshops are for beginner Slow Bal dancers, or for dancers who want to strengthen their basics. We offer two parts, depending on your experience with Slow Bal.
The programme
13:30 – 14:30 hr: Slow Bal Foundation – Part 1
This workshop is the start of your Slow Bal journey. We’ll build your Slow Bal “toolbox”: using quicks and slows, you’ll learn how the dance is structured. You’ll also learn a first version of the Slow Bal basic based on these rhythms. After this first hour, you’ll be ready to move on to part 2.
14:45 – 16:15 hr: Slow Bal Foundation – Part 2
In this second part, we build further and introduce the full Slow Bal basic, including the beautiful rotations that are so characteristic of the dance. We’ll finish with a fun move, so you’ll leave with some extra variation right away.
16:15 – 17:00 hr: Practice Time
This part of the programme is optional, but we’d love to give everyone the opportunity to keep dancing a bit longer and practice together with fellow dancers.
