Slingshot, the international nexus for music, electronic art, and technology in the South in Durham, NC, : May 8, 13th-15th.
Beginning in 2013 as a grassroots effort, Slingshot grew to draw 5,000+ attendees and participation from over 100 artists and musicians from 20 countries in 2016. Over the years, it hosted dozens of notables such as James Murphy, Jamie **, Holly Herndon, and dozens of sound and visual artists from many corners of the globe.
Now firmly in Durham, with a continued mission to connect forward-thinking artists from all over the globe, Slingshot is looking forward to its first of two events in May of 2022, by increasing the number of artists and expanding its lineup for its traditionally diverse and open-eared audience.
Sound and its full possibilities will be on display. Slingshot will again connect Durham with Detroit by hosting techno and soundcraft legend Carl Craig. For those looking for leaders in current electronic music who are known for pushing the possibilities of sound forward, British composer/producer Andy Stott and UK-based composer and DJ Barker (who will perform both a live and DJ set) will surely hit those notes, and for those wanting a more surrealist soundscape, artist, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Eartheater will not disappoint.
Dance music will be a theme, with a full range of downtempo, club music, and hard techno this May from producer Aurora Halal, the D.C.-based collective Black Rave Culture, Volvox, Lady Starlight, and LA’s Introspekt.
It’s not all beats, though! Avant garde composer Debit will perform her recently lauded record combining Mayan flutes with artificial intelligence programs, and Slingshot will also host an ambient music specific program featuring ULLA, and a host of modular synthesists and masters of the ambient genre.
This May, Slingshot will continue its history of being a nexus for creators both internationally and regionally, as dozens of artists and collectives will convene to showcase their work in a setting that has become a signature of creativity in the South. In that vein, Brooklyn tastemakers Nick Boyd (originally from Winston-Salem) of Sorry Records and Rose Kourts (from Charlotte) will return to their home state of North Carolina, bearing the standard of the new sound of club music coalescing on the East Coast.
