Darwin Entertainment Centre and SLIDE Youth Dance Theatre presentTonight is the graduation dance.
Frankie is dreading it, but her mum insists she go. For the last three hours, she’s been perched on her bed, biting her nails and wishing for a sudden, serious illness.
Brian feels the same way, but his mum isn’t taking no for an answer. For the past two weeks, he’s been sprawled on the floor, trying to manage a panic attack.
“What if it’s super awkward? What if no one talks to me? What if my dress malfunctions? Worse, what if I throw up?” Frankie pleaded with her mother.
“Don’t be ridiculous, Frankie. This is a rite of passage! I loved my graduation,” her mum replied.
Brian shouted from the comfort of his bedroom floor, “What if I…?”
“I’m stopping you right there, sunshine,” his mum interjected. “Here’s a thought—what if you fall in love?”
Brian paused, considering her words.
