Slices of Wisdom: A Women’s SalonHosted by Madeline Webster-Perry + Emilie Hoffman
Third Wednesday of every month
September Topic: Women’s Art
Date: September 18th
Time: 7:30p to 9:30p
Our Event:
Join us at Pie Guy Pizza for our first women’s salon event, hosted by Madeline Webster-Perry and Emilie Hoffman!
Each month, we’ll explore a different theme, with September’s topic being centered on Women’s Art. We invite women — and those who feel most comfortable in women's spaces — to share and discuss art created by women, whether it's your own work or a piece that inspires you.
Bring a song, poem, or excerpt to share, along with a couple of discussion questions, and join in the conversation. With food, drinks, and a welcoming atmosphere, this is a space to connect, create, and celebrate women’s voices and art!
What is a salon?
Women's salons started in the 16th and 17th centuries as gatherings where women hosted discussions on art, literature, politics, and ideas. These salons gave women a rare chance to shape important conversations in a time when their voices were often overlooked. They were spaces for people from different backgrounds to connect, share ideas, and debate in an open and safe environment. Over time, salons became key in fostering creativity and intellectual growth, influencing culture across Europe, and later becoming hubs for artists and writers in the 19th and 20th centuries.
A women's salon today is a space for intellectual exchange, creative inspiration, and community building, much like its historical roots. Modern salons, however, often center around themes of empowerment, knowledge sharing, and meaningful conversation, providing a platform for women to connect and engage with diverse perspectives in a welcoming environment. These gatherings are a revival of the original concept, where ideas about culture, art, literature, and current social issues can be freely discussed, fostering both personal growth and collective understanding in an increasingly complex world.
