Crystal Eyes
Led by songwriter Erin Jenkins, Crystal Eyes weaves gleamy, dreamy aesthetics into dance-worthy tunes, creating a shoegaze playground where feminine '60s psych meets warm, stripped-down indie dream rock. Their single “Wishes” mixes '90s nostalgia with a touch of The Cure and New Order, highlighted by Jenkins's saccharine vocals and dreamy pop textures.
Thunder Queens
Teen punks Thunder Queens put the “power” in power-trio with big riffs and even bigger ideas. Across eleven tracks of non-stop buzzsaw punk rock, sludge, and indie pop, the band’s debut LP Strike One explores gen alpha existentialism with youthful feminist ferocity, like Sleater Kinney after crushing an energy drink. The kids aren’t alright – they’re ready to rage.
Laughing
Featuring members of Nap Eyes and Monomyth, Laughing is a new power-pop project that aims to bring ‘90s Seattle spirit to the masses. Debut single “Bruised” is a Superchunk-y dream of disarming lyrics awash in a landscape of jangly guitar-work. Their upcoming debut album Because It’s True drops shortly after this year’s edition of Sled Island.
Baby Jey
On Crop Circles, Baby Jey traded rustic indie instrumentation for psychedelic synths and drum machines, blazing a new path forward for their pop stylings. Lyrically – and aesthetically – the band explores Alberta’s history of unexplained cosmic phenomena and extraterrestrial activity to find their place within the universe.
Bad Bodies
Bad Bodies describes themselves as a group of “four art-punks making their R&B dreams come true.” It’s an apt description: most recent single “What’s Up” has a dream-like texture with just enough rhythm to sway your way to bliss. The band includes members of other local acts Meats, Dick Clark 5 and Governer.
