Brain Bent
Frenetic post-punk freaks Brain Bent sound like an electrical outage during a battle of the bands between Devo, Gang of Four and The B-52’s. On stage, they wear matching uniforms, trade off vocal duties and blur the line between shredding and performance art. New music is coming soon, but start off with “Quality Assurance Audit” for a proper taste.
SO TIRED
Post-punk powerhouse SO TIRED is back in Calgary to cast another spell of timeless, razor-sharp grunge bewitchment. Ripping through the Toronto punk scene led by bass player and songster Miranda Marie, the trio brings cultural nostalgia and versatile DIY punk ethos to their acidic take on noisy punk rock. SO TIRED is so unmissable.
Bill Can
Prolific four-piece Bill Can has released four albums in around the last year alone. They make a gritty blend of post-punk and garage rock inspired by the performance art antics of acts like Devo. Live shows often include elaborate costumes, puppets, onstage eating and amateur stunt work, lending a dynamic chaos to performances.
Poltergeist
Leather-and-lace-clad locals Poltergeist brew a heady concoction of post-punk, goth rock, heavy metal and shoegaze to enchanting results. The heavy riffs and theatrical vocals of Kalen Baker ring out on the single “Fall To Ruin” – a split with West Coast shredders Spell – that transports you to the past, present and future.
