Völur
Melding a myriad of global folk traditions with a foreboding overture of doom metal, Völur has created an atmospheric musical journey akin to Led Zeppelin’s epic fantasy explorations and BIG|BRAVE’s sweeping intensity. Expect heavy tones, shrieked vocals and refrains reminiscent of free jazz.
Old Mound
Like a doom-rock apparition, Old Mound layers stream-of-consciousness vocals over loosely fuzzy bass lines with a hypnotic sparkle and primordial energy. This group's droning psych dirges are haunted by memories of rural Alberta. Unnerving in simplicity, an Old Mound set is a monument to unborn wisdom and a portal into songwriter Wes Christiansen's mind.
S[K]IES
Solo artist Chris Sies makes extreme music that veers at breakneck pace through ambient waves of sound and power electronics. He uses acoustic percussion combined with live processing and electronic effects, synth, and shredded vocals to create eruptions of sound that will rattle you to your core.
ECHTHROS
Lingering agony and Indigenous rage fuels every droning sonic experiment of ECHTHROS. The voices of residential school survivors are sampled throughout their work, haunting the doom-noise sounds like memories that must never be forgotten. “Teeth Agape” is a crushingly severe single of droning anger that goes for the windpipe with sheer electronic violence.
The Furnace
Kaiden Jackman channels the catharsis of screaming at the abyss into The Furnace, an audio assault of industrial noise and chaos. Harsh walls of blown out distortion are the backdrop of Jackman’s vulnerable wordplay, delivered at the top of their lungs during confrontational solo performances. Ears ring and hearts sing when you step into The Furnace.
