"Where water meets land and the spirit meets the body there is a place. For every place there is a proper distance. The road is long, it's best we start now."It's finally time!!! The album is live, come celebrate it's birth into the world with us as we recreate this music in it's live debut! Joined with a support set from the fabuolous Mia Barham, the band will play the whole album back to back for your enjoyment.
Mia Barham:
With her lyrical melodies, sensitive compositions and thoughtful improvisational approach, Mia Barham is an exciting saxophonist and flautist from Melbourne, Australia. Mia has performed with renowned jazz artists from around the globe including Nduduzo Makhatani, Ingrid Jenson and Andrea Keller. She has two releases to her name, both of which have been featured on ABC Jazz, PBS and have been performed at prestigious Melbourne venues The Jazzlab and Tempo Rubato. She has an infectious passion for music and as said by ARIA Nominated Alto Saxophonist Angela Davis “Mia is an extremely talented musician who at a very young age has already developed an extremely individual sound and concept”. This is the debut if Mia’s first solo project. It is inspired by audio recordings taken from her time spent in the Rocky Mountains in the rugged Canadian winter.
SLATLAND:
Written and recorded on the lands of the Kulin nation, this debut album presents a journey of many facets. The central theme is the idea of place, where the mind and the body meet and rise up like the water meeting the land. Both a physical and metaphysical concept, this journey travels through many different places, at times beautiful and calm, at others wild and thunderous. With a selection of original repertoire composed specifically for some of Meblourne's most excitingly innovative emerging and established artists, 'Slatland' presents an equally exciting concept as a recorded debut
for an Emerging and Innovative new artist.
