About this Event
Kerrie is a… financial planner ready to talk about entrepreneurs and small business owners' goals. What would you ask Kerrie?
Activity Description
Kerrie Carden, founder of Equip Advisory, will do a brief presentation on the topic. The heart of the workshop will focus on attendees pre-submitted questions and any other ideas sparked in the session.
Presenter: Kerrie Carden
Founder, Equip Advisory
A Maryland native, Kerrie describes her work as, “a bit of a love letter to all the people and movements who made it possible to be here.”
After graduating from Stanford University, Kerrie started her career in business with a focus on client management and operations at Yahoo!, ClearCompany, and MD Energy Advisors. These early positions revealed her strong mentoring abilities and interests in career development. Kerrie honed these skills in her following positions as Director of Student Entrepreneurship at Johns Hopkins University and Chief Revenue Officer at Invanti, a startup studio and fund focused on supporting pre-idea founders to develop sustainable business ventures seeking to impact kitchen table problems.
In 2020, after two successive experiences of personal loss, the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the country’s short-term, non-curative responses to state-sanctioned M**der of Black bodies, Kerrie had reached a critical juncture. She wanted a career that would allow her to give the best of herself to something that was truly making a difference. As Kerrie puts it, “some people learned to bake bread – no disrespect to sourdough starters – I learned financial planning.” With a Certificate in Financial Planning from Howard University, she transformed a hobby of mentoring co-workers into Equip Advisory.
Kerrie’s greatest skill is her ability to listen and understand what you are trying to do and translate that into a concrete plan. She believes that impact at this individual level is what allows underserved communities to build wealth and effect change.
