Over two sessions, learn the art of batik and create a one-of-a-kind canvas tote bag.
Batik is an ancient art form with centuries of history — practiced across China, Japan, India, Indonesia and beyond — that uses wax and dye to create stunning, one-of-a-kind patterns on fabric.
In this two-part series, you'll try your hand at this beautiful technique while designing and creating your very own canvas tote bag. Using one of our provided designs or one entirely your own, you'll begin by drawing your design to create a resist image. From there, you'll hand-paint your creation using the bold, beautiful colors that make batik fabric so iconic. By the end of the series, you'll walk away with a unique, handcrafted tote bag and the batik skills to keep creating long after class ends. All materials will be provided.
