This class is the 2nd in a 4-part series. Co-Ed Handgun Fundamentals or Empowering Women Fundamentals is a prerequisite for this class & must have been successfully completed prior to taking this course.Fundamental Skills & Drills is a two-hour course designed as a Beginners-level class that will occur on the range. This course will test the students’ ability to consistently demonstrate firearm safety while handling a firearm. Proper shooting stance, grip, aiming, trigger control, and follow thru will be the focus of the drills performed. Drills are designed to create proper muscle memory while expanding the students’ skill & confidence level. Students will increase their ability to strike the target in a designated area while in a stationary position while performing fundamentals correctly.
Terminal Learning Objective (TLO)
In an indoor, low-stress environment, upon completion of the course, all students are expected to be proficient with the proper handling of their firearm, including safety. This includes using the proper terminology associated with their firearm. Through repetition of the drills, they will demonstrate their knowledge/skills of all of the external feature of their pistol (magazine release, slide stop, racking the slide, locking the slide back, sights etc..) or their revolver (ejector rod, cylinder release, hammer, etc..). Drills will be performed at a short-range distance of 3-7 yards while in a stationary position. By the end of class, all students will be able to demonstrate efficient use of their firearm.
Required Course Materials
Students will be required to provide a personal firearm, with three magazines (pistol) or two speed loaders (revolver).
75-100 rounds of ammunition.
Hearing and eye protection.
Minimum of 5 snap caps/ dummy rounds
Note: All targets are provided as course material
Wear comfortable clothing, closed-toed shoes & no low-cut shirts.
Required Note of Warning:
Governors Gun Club reserves the right to remove any student from the course for safety concerns or frequent safety infractions. No money will be refunded, and the individual will be refused further training instruction until the successful completion of Handgun Fundamentals and Safety Courses. If the written or performance test are not passed (where applicable), a later date will be scheduled for remedial training so the student can have a chance to continue to progress.
Course Schedule
This is a two-hour live fire course.
One 10-minute break will be provided at the beginning of the 2nd hour.
All drills will be run with shooters working in unison upon instructors’ commands.
The pace of the drills will be determined by the skill & safety level of the students.
Students will be provided one-on-one instruction throughout the class.

Review of 5 handgun fundamentals
Reinforcement of proper firearm terminology
Introduction to Range Commands
Live fire drills reinforcing gun safety & fundamentals
Demonstration of clearing a firearm
Introduction to magazine changes (time permitting)
One-handed, strong hand shooting (time permitting)
Confidence Drills
