Sketch and Sip: Pavilion Prototypes

Hello everyone! For our fourth Coffee Talk, we’re switching things up with a hands-on design activity at SoZo Coffee House in Chandler. This month, join us for Sketch and Sip: Pavilion Prototypes!

Grab a coffee, pick up a pencil, and put your ideas to paper. During this Coffee Talk, attendees will be given one of three sites around Arizona and challenged to design a pavilion in response to its unique context. Through quick sketches and design exploration, we’ll have the opportunity to think about how site, culture, environment, and community can influence architectural ideas.

In recognition of National Hispanic Heritage Month, our three Arizona sites will offer an opportunity to explore how culture, community, and place can inform the way we design. How might the landscape shape your design? What stories can architecture tell about culture, community, or place?

This is a casual and collaborative activity open to everyone, whether you are an experienced designer, student, emerging professional, or simply interested in giving sketching a try. There is no pressure to create a finished project, be curious and ready to explore ideas, experiment, and share your perspective with others. Paper and pencils will be provided, and sketchbooks are encouraged!

We invite you to join us on Saturday, September 19th, at SoZo Coffee House for a morning of coffee, conversation, and creative exploration. We’d love to see what you come up with!

What are Coffee Talks? Coffee Talks are a NOMAarizona bi-monthly event. Order a warm or iced beverage of your choice from rotating café locations around the valley. In Coffee Talks, we come together to share, listen, and learn in a casual setting. This is a place where light and heavy topics can be discussed welcomingly while learning from different perspectives and joining in community. We encourage all to participate in the conversation as we explore many topics and coffee shops with NOMAarizona.
