Living Arts of Tulsa is excited to announce a two-day workshop to create your own large-scale skeleton to be featured in the “Dance of the Skeletons” portion of the procession at the annual Día de Los Muertos Arts Festival. These workshops will occur on October 25th and October 26th from 12:00 - 4:00 PM. Participants may work as a group or individually to build a large-scale movable skeleton using papier-mâché. Attending the workshop and participating in the parade will cost $65 per Skeleton. Skeleton groups can be no more than four people. Supplies will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring additional materials for their skeletons that they wish to include. Teaching Artist Mery McNett is leading the workshop and will offer technical guidance.
Traditionally, the procession and dancing of calacas, or skeletons, is a playful symbol of the continuation of life after death in Mexican culture. This is a fun opportunity for everyone; no experience is necessary!
