Skate, Scoot, Spin & Scurry: A Buggy Adventure on Wheels
About this Event
SKATE, SCOOT, SPIN & SCURRY: A Buggy Adventure on Wheels
Gresham Park Recreation Center
3113 Gresham Rd S E, Atlanta, GA 30316
Summer is the perfect time to get outside, get moving, and keep learning—and everyone has their favorite way to roll. For some, that might mean lacing up a pair of roller skates. For others, it's hopping on a scooter, riding a bicycle, or cruising along in a wheelchair.
Skate, Scoot, Spin & Scurry invites participants to experience South DeKalb's paved trails in motion while discovering the fascinating insects that thrive during Georgia's warmest months. As we travel the trail, we'll slow down, look closer, and uncover a miniature world filled with butterflies, dragonflies, beetles, bees, grasshoppers, and countless other tiny creatures that play an important role in our ecosystems.
Whether you're rolling for recreation, exercise, exploration, or simply the joy of being outdoors, this family-friendly adventure offers a unique blend of movement, nature discovery, and community science.
A Gentle Reminder:
Please bring your preferred wheeled transportation and any recommended safety gear for your activity. Participants should be comfortable independently operating their equipment, as instruction for skating, scooting, cycling, or wheelchair use will not be provided.
We'll focus our attention on the insects, not the wheels—so come ready to roll, observe, and discover.
What to Expect
Participants will travel at a leisurely pace along the paved trail while stopping periodically to observe, identify, and discuss insects encountered along the route. Along the way, Naturalist Tasha will share fun facts about insect adaptations, behaviors, life cycles, ecological roles, and ways participants can contribute to community science through observations on iNaturalist.
This is not a race or fitness event. The emphasis is on exploration, observation, and discovery.

Your guide will be Naturalist Tasha Messer, Parks Naturalist for South DeKalb with DeKalb County Recreation, Parks & Cultural Affairs.
