Created through an iterative editing process, the layers of "Open Water" build up a complex environment with a listening experience like staring out into an ocean of evolving texture.
By freely interpreting and shaping raw materials presented to each other without context, the duo surface invocations of love, travel, and acceptance of the vulnerability we face when encountering the unknown.
Bauer
Bauer is the musical project of Robert Soma-Lewis, a musician and producer living in London. Bauer makes organic electroacoustic music, drawing on ambient, drone, and cinematic sound worlds. Through his use of modular, field recordings, and unconventional methods of synthesis, he builds landscapes for the listener to explore and be surrounded by. Bauer has recently released two singles ‘Fissure’ and ‘Nets’ and has a new EP in the works. Rob also works as a Mixing/Mastering Engineer, Producer, and Sound Designer via his company Ambient Works. He has recently contributed to works appearing on labels such as One Little Independent, SA Recordings, Nonclassical and McQueenMusic / Alexander McQueen.
Katharina Schmidt
Katharina Schmidt is a musician based in Berlin. After years of playing drums and piano in various bands, her solo work is influenced by indie, experimental, and improvised music. Exploring interests in storytelling, sonic topographies, and generative techniques, her music uses electronics, field recordings, and self-built interfaces alongside acoustic instruments. From sonifications to lullabies, her work is poised between formal experimentation and narratives cued by literature and pop culture, and can be heard in installations, film music, and radiophonic pieces, as well as releases on labels such as enmossed, Flag Day Recordings, Vertical Music, and Slaapwel Records.
