Six Foot Love Series presents: Monks of Saturnalia

Monks of Saturnalia is a jazz ensemble taking influence from post-bop, free jazz, rock, and Mingus-inspired harmony. Led by composer Gregg Prickett (Unconscious Collective, Trio du Sang, Ronald Shannon Jackson Decoding Society, etc…) with a rotating cast of seasoned musicians since the inception of the project in 1998.

"My goal is to stretch and extend the relationships between melody, harmony, rhythm, and concept, making a living vehicle for the group and the listeners to drive and ride to places they haven't explored before," Prickett explains about his approach to the compositions. "Much like Chaos Theory, slight variables in the musical improvisations can make an impact on the structure of the pieces. Every performance becomes an opportunity to explore a new direction within the confines of the composition.”
