An evening of improvised music featuring sitar, french horn, bass, and percussion
About this Event

We'll be coming together for an evening of improvised music with Sasha Bayan, Mars Gelfo, Nate Levin, and Ahmed Ragab.

The sounds of sitar, french horn, bass, and percussion playing together through a set of original music by Sasha Bayan and some made up this very evening. If you listen closely, you may also hear the McDonald's theme song in one of the solos.

Sasha Bayan is a classically trained multi-instrumentalist, composer, and singer-songwriter based in San Francisco. He regularly performs solo and in ensembles throughout the Bay Area. His musical interests lead him to gigs where he plays classically-inspired sitar; classical, jazz, and Brazilian guitar; and his own original compositions and arrangements.

From 7 time music school reject to touring 2 continents with San Francisco Symphony, Mars Gelfo combines 20 years studying cognitive science & peak performance with a 15+ year career playing French horn, and 5 years as an entrepreneur in the music technology & productivity space. He applied degrees in cognitive science & computer science degrees from Northwestern University to his passion for music, creating an international career as a multi-genre French hornist. In addition to being an experienced performer & music educator, Marc is also a certified yoga teacher and permaculture designer. His passion and fascination centers on the synergy of art, science, and spirituality in service of global flourishing.

Nate Levin is an Oberlin Conservatory trained double bassist, livetronica looper, sound healer, and multi-instrumentalist who has performed professionally on all seven continents at clubs, festivals, cruise ships, concert halls, and yoga studios. In addition to the bass, Nate performs on a variety of classical, world, and electronic musical instruments sometimes including the hang drum, handsonic, djembe, didgeridoo, hardwood drum, kalimba, sound bowl, guitar, native american flute, and ableton push.

Ahmad Ragab: Music is a reflection of life itself, the experiences you live. I bring mental health and creative methods to make this music process a balanced and emotionally inclusive experience. I have performed and lived in Egypt, Japan and the United States over the course of the last 15 years. Living a multicultural life has brought my desire for exploration and adventure in different sonic landscapes a life long passion and now a profession.
