I am Sista Zock an adjunct lecturer and multi-disciplined social justice artist in Harlem. My work explores the intersection of arts and athletics focusing on the psychosomatic effects of historical injustices. I address classism racism sexism and ageism drawing inspiration from my family's connection to the Harlem Renaissance and embodying a New Harlem Renaissance with the Sankofa philosophy "It is not taboo to fetch what you have forgotten."
My artistic practice incorporates traditional African dance wellness modalities song spoken word and Jazz music. Using interdisciplinary arts including call-and-response improvisation and storytelling I aim to challenge monolithic social constructs and foster diverse artistic expression rooted in African culture.
As a former Division One track and field athlete and social justice activist I leverage my experiences to reflect on social injustice and catalyze positive change within cultural contexts.
My mission is to contribute to communities' cultural and physical well-being through meaningful engagement with the arts.
