Staten Island Shakespearean Theatre Company Auditions:
The Servant of Two Masters
By Carlo Goldoni, translated by Stephen Mulrine
Director: Emmie D’Amico
The Servant of Two Masters is a Venetian farce which has been adapted and translated hundreds of times since its creation in 1746, even directly inspiring the English adaptation: “One Man, Two Guvnors.” This ever-relevant piece is a laugh a minute and the gold standard of commedia dell’arte!
Written and set during a period of intense political unrest in Venetian history, the historical inhabitants of the sinking city were far too concerned with social capital and leading lives of pleasure in the gorgeous and culturally rich city to bother with the collapse of their democracy.
Auditions will take place on Monday, March 16 and Thursday, March 19 from 5:00 to 10:00pm in The Learning Center, Building G, at Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden, 1000 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island, NY 10301.
To make an audition appointment email Emmie D’Amico, at [email protected] with a preferable time window and we will accommodate as best as possible
Please prepare a comedic monologue not longer than two minutes and come dressed to move.
ALL ROLES ARE OPEN. There will be a small stipend ($100) provided to actors.

Friday, May 8 – 8:00pm
Saturday, May 9 – 8:00pm
Sunday, May 10 – 2:00pm

Character Breakdown:
• Truffaldino Battochio – Servant to Beatrice…and also to Florindo. Tuffaldino is a servant-for-hire who decides to try his hand at working two jobs at once to increase his payout. As deeply flawed as he is lovable, he also manages to court Smeraldina while juggling two jobs.
• Beatrice Rasponi – Master to Truffaldino, a lady of Turin and disguised as her brother Federigo Rasponi. In actuality, he died in a duel he challenged her lover, Florindo, to. Beatrice must keep her identity secret long enough to procure her late brother’s inheritance, which is complicated by her late brother’s betrothal to Clarice! (who would much prefer to marry Silvio) Trans women are especially encouraged to apply for this role.
• Florindo Aretusi – Master to Truffaldino, Florindo is on the run after killing Beatrice’s brother, Frederigo, in a duel in Turin. He must keep his identity secret so as not to face charges in the death. He laments having to leave behind Beatrice, whom he truly loves!
• Pantalone Dei Bisognosi – A Venetian merchant and father of Clarice, he is in charge of his daughter’s betrothal. Extremely fiscally conscious, he will marry her to whoever can offer him the better deal.
• Smeraldina – The gossipy maidservant to Clarice and the love interest of Truffaldino. She is strong willed, opinionated, and lovely.
• Clarice – Pantalone's daughter who was once indifferently engaged to Federigo, now seeks marriage to her beloved betrothed, Silvio. A young lover, she is headstrong and fiercely loyal.
• Silvio – Son of Dr. Lombardi, a young lover who is so close to marrying Clarice until her former betrothed, Frederigo, once believed dead, comes back to town! (Who he believes is Frederigo is actually Beatrice in disguise)
• Dr. Lombardi – Silvio's father who could very accurately be described as a self-important wind bag.
• Brighella – An Innkeeper and friend of Beatrice and Frederigo’s family.
