Good Vibes Live is our new live music series celebrating sound, community, and the creative energy of Uptown Westerville — featuring different artists and genres throughout the year.
We’re opening the series with jazz as a nod to Westerville’s long-standing connection to the genre — a tradition shaped by community festivals, local concert series, and ensemble and student performances that have filled Uptown with music over the years.
First up, we’re excited to welcome JT Jazz as we kick off Jazz in the ’Ville, bringing his smooth, soulful sound and easy-listening vibe to Uptown Westerville.
🎶 About JT Jazz
Born and raised in Dayton, Ohio — famously known as the land of funk — JT Jazz grew up immersed in the sounds of R&B and funk legends like Slave, Ohio Players, Lakeside, and Zapp featuring Roger Troutman. That foundation still shows up in his music today: groove-forward, soulful, and built to feel good.
For more than two decades, JT Jazz has been a fixture of the Columbus jazz scene, including his longtime role as a key member of the acclaimed R&B/jazz ensemble NexLevel, a band celebrated for its nonstop live energy and deep community roots. Through NexLevel and his solo work, he’s shared stages with an impressive range of artists — from Boyz II Men, Fourplay, and Spyro Gyra to Mindi Abair, Warren Hill, Tim Bowman, and late greats Jeff Golub and Wayman Tisdale.
That momentum has led to national and international touring with smooth jazz favorites including Eric Darius, Adam Hawley, Althea Rene, Paul Taylor, and the late Nick Colionne, along with performances at festivals and concert series across the country and beyond — from our hometown Columbus Jazz & Rib Fest and Gahanna Creekside Blues Festival to Hawaii, Chicago, California, New York, and more.
JT Jazz is also a recording artist with original music released on major streaming platforms. His debut album, The Inauguration of Jtjazz (Jesse Thompson: The Man Behind the Keys), introduced listeners to a joyful, funk-infused sound led by the breakout track “Weekend Groove,” created during the pandemic as what JT calls a “seed of happiness.”
Expect smooth, soulful grooves with funk at the foundation — the kind of jazz you sip to, sway to, and stay awhile for. Music that lifts the room, feels good in the moment, and keeps the good vibes flowing.
