About this Event
Exploring the art of self-expression, you’ll discover the joy of hand-building, shaping this natural tactile material into your very own unique piece.
ADDED BONUS: You’ll also have the option of capturing your clay piece in charcoal as a still life.
Sip, clay and charcoal is a relaxed, social clay modelling workshop in our central Norwich studio.
No experience needed. No artistic skills required.
Just you, a lump of clay, good music, and the simple pleasure of making something with your hands. This is not a technical class. It’s a creative session designed for enjoyment, experimentation, and switching off from screens for a couple of hours.
Bring a drink (BYOB and nibbles). Come with friends. Or turn up solo and get completely absorbed in the process.
We’ll guide you through simple techniques to shape, sculpt, and create your own unique piece.
All materials are provided.
Expect a fun, hands-on experience that feels more like a great night out than a workshop.
What to Expect at our Clay and charcoal workshop
You’ll be welcomed into the studio and introduced to the clay through a series of simple, guided exercises designed especially for beginners.
We start loose. No intensity. No seriousness, just getting comfortable with the material.
We'll guide you through shaping, you’ll pinch, shape, smooth, build and carve. Experimenting will help you create while keeping the atmosphere light, playful, and relaxed.
We’ll play some warm up games, like:
- Clay pass ball
- Blind and speed sculpting
- Emotional shapes.
Why people love Sculpt and Sip
Because working with clay is grounding, absorbing and surprisingly calming.
Hands move.
Minds quiet.
Conversation flows.
Two hours disappear faster than you expect.
There’s no artistic pressure.
Some people make abstract forms.
Some make characters.
Some make wonderfully strange creations that defy explanation.
That’s part of the fun.
Charcoal
You have the option of sketching your clay shape in charcoal, another wonderfully tactile material, the two work so well together. You can also have fun drawing the other clay figures made by the group.
We'll show you some simple charcoal techniques to get you used to handling the charcoal. Knowing a few different effects will give you the confidence when it comes to sketching.
