Sip & Weave with Jo Luxton & Fiona Collis: Lunch Time with a Master Weaver
Join me for a very special afternoon of creativity, connection and community as we gather for a Sip & Weave experience with internationally recognised master weaver Fiona Collis.
Fiona is widely respected as one of Aotearoa’s leading contemporary weavers. Her work has been showcased on the world stage, including as a lead artist for the FIFA Women’s World Cup, where her artistry represented the beauty and depth of Māori weaving traditions to a global audience. Known for both her mastery and generosity in sharing knowledge, Fiona carries a deep commitment to keeping raranga traditions alive and thriving. I am incredibly grateful to Fiona for giving up her time to support fundraising for this campaign in our bid to change the government.
On this afternoon, Fiona will guide us through the weaving process of a simple taonga, in a relaxed and welcoming setting. After we weave, we will be able to sip on non-alcoholic beverages with kai, and share kōrero, you’ll learn the foundations of raranga while creating something meaningful with your own hands. Weaving is also very important to me, and it is more than craft. It is connection. Each strand represents whakapapa, patience and the way our people bring individual threads together to create strength and beauty.
Whether you are completely new to weaving, simply curious to learn from one of the best in the world, and are also keen to support my East Cape campaign, this is a rare opportunity to spend time learning from a true master of her craft and also bring our community together in support of our bid for the East Cape, helping ensure our region continues to have strong voices advocating for whānau, communities and the future of our coast.
