Join 21c Museum Hotel Louisville for a Sip & Tour on Friday, August 21 at 5:30pm. Enjoy a guided tour through our current exhibition, Revival: Digging Into Yesterday, Planting Tomorrow, while sipping a specialty cocktail inspired by one of the featured works on view.
This month's cocktail, Hive, is inspired by La Vaughn Belle's Swarm (2023). Featuring rum, amaro, honey, charred pineapple, lime, and coconut, Hive is a rum-based clarified milk punch that begins as a twist on the classic Bee's Knees.
Belle's Swarm transforms and burns an image of a colonial plantation from the former Danish West Indies, drawing attention to the hierarchies created through colonialism. Inspired by both the artwork and Belle's Trinidad & Tobago roots, the cocktail combines rum and amaro with charred pineapple juice, honey, and lime before being clarified through a coconut milk punch. The result is a smooth, sepia-toned cocktail that echoes the layered textures and palette of Swarm.
