After centuries of being almost completely absent from the historical record, female musicians suddenly took the spotlight in seventeenth-century Italy. Especially popular were trios of singing ladies, who entranced audiences with the sound of their gorgeous voices interwoven into tight harmonies (think of a Baroque version of the “Andrews sisters”!).
This enchanting evening explores cantatas for multiple sopranos and instrumental solos from three major Italian music centers: Venice, Bologna, and Rome. The final Luigi Rossi cantata depicts three maidens returning home from a ball, all the while deconstructing their suitors’ pickup lines!
Please note there is LIMITED FREE parking in the church parking lot. Paid street and lot parking available nearby. No late admittance, doors close at 7:30pm. Tickets available online or at the door. Cash and credit accepted.
