About this Event
, we inspire deeper connection to ourselves, each other, and the Earth through song. We believe in the healing, freedom, and joy that can come through communal singing, and aim to make that experience more widely accessible.
About this circle: Featuring the Música do Círculo method, we will use simple games and form to create spontaneous, collaborative, resonant sound among a circle of singers. Instead of teaching existing songs, your leaders will source sound from the moment and group members to arrange a groove. From these groove we will layer, improvise, dance, and evolve the sound in what Música do Círculo calls a "flow": an uninterupted journey through collaborative singing and body music.
This circle will be co-led by Millly Roberts and special guest Paola Faoro.
Paola Faoro's musical journey began in Brazil, where she first performed with the “Brasileirão” Choir and later co-founded the a cappella vocal trio “Noivas do Allfreddo” (Allfreddo’s Fiancées), singing with the group for five years. Since moving to Boston in 2012, Paola has continued to grow as a musician. She has been leading Circle Singing sessions in Jamaica Plain since 2019, has completed the Leading Musica do Circulo training in 2023 and is a member of the vocal improv ensemble Backyard Collective, which she co-founded in 2020.
was developed by Pedro Consorte, Ronaldo Crispim and Zuza Gonçalves - the current directors of the Música do Cïrculo Institute - over several years, mainly in São Paulo. The seed of the Música do Círculo (MdC) project emerged within the São Paulo body music community, fertile ground nurtured by the work of masters such as Fernando Barba, Stênio Mendes, and the Barbatuques group over more than a decade
When: This Singing Circle will be offered March 19th and April 2nd from 7 - 9 pm. Join for either session or both!
Location: SomArt Space - 2rd floor of the Somerville Armory, located at 191 Highland Ave. Located 1 mi from Porter Sq. Redline, 0.7 mi from Magoune Sq. Greenline, or steps from 88 or 90 bus stop.
Parking: Available behind the building or street parking on Highland Ave.
Bring: A water bottle, snacks to share if you'd like.
RSVP & Cost: We encourage RSVPs through Eventbrite, but walk-ins are welcome too. Sliding Scale $10-30. You can pay through eventbrite, pay cash at the door, or venmo @bostonareasingingcircles. No one turned away for lack of funds.
