Sing the North Festival Concert: A Baroque Celebration
About this Event
Join us for a thrilling evening of the very best of baroque choral music, featuring music by G.F. Handel and Italian composer Barbara Strozzi, with music by feature composer Canadian, Katerina Gimon.
Choral legend Howard Dyck leads the 100-voice Sing the North Festival Chorus & Orchestra in three great works by Handel: the energetic and youthful Dixit Dominus, the moving Utrecht Jubilate Deo and the famous Coronation Anthem, Zadok the Priest, heard round the world as the pinnacle musical celebration at the crowning of King Charles II.
Our soloists are the spellbinding Polish-Canadian soprano, Karoline Podolak, wonderful baroque specialist soprano Janelle Lucyk, exclusive Sony recording artist Daniel Taylor, and powerful Canadian bass, Alexander Dobson. Joining them are three favourite local tenors Felix Butterfield, Tim Carter, and Adam Dyjach.
Our program mixes Handel’s large-scale works with intimate cantatas and madrigals from the queen of the Italian early baroque, Barbara Strozzi, which will be performed by the Sing the North Festival Chamber Choirs.
We’re thrilled to showcase the innovative and unique voice of young Vancouver composer Katerina Gimon, who is the 2026 Feature Composer at the Sing the North Festival. Katerina’s music, which invokes themes from Hildegard of Bingen, sounds of the natural world, and the pulse of ancient rhythms will thrill out audiences.
