The TCMC Salvation Army, Silver Angel Tree Poker Run began in 2017 with approximately 5 local bars and bar/grills participating as stops. The Salvation Army Silver Angel tree is a program run by the Salvation Army in conjunction with the Angel Tree program during the Christmas season to help provide gifts for those less fortunate in our community. TCMC decided to sponsor and represent the Silver Angel Tree for Senior Citizens since there are already so many sponsorships in the area for children by other local organizations.
There are many ways you can help support this worthwhile cause:
• Hang a Silver Angel Tree Board in your business. Typically, the tags are hung on an actual tree but for the poker run we hang them on boards on the wall to save space and allow us to hang tags earlier in the season. TCMC will create the boards with the tags attached. People that frequent your business can take a tag(s), buy whatever is specified on the tag, and return the unwrapped gift to your location in a box provided by us. Every week a member of TCMC or representative will come by and pick up the gifts and refill the tags on the board as needed.
• Become a poker stop. The day of the run TCMC will provide playing cards along with a member of the club or a representative at your business to manage the stop. When participants come to your establishment, they will draw a poker card and get their poker hand sheet stamped. Employees of your business are not responsible for anything regarding running the stop. We use locally owned businesses to participate as poker stops to help you generate income the day of the run as a support to the local community.
• Donate gift certificates or swag. You can do this without hanging a board or being a poker stop. TCMC is not yet a 501c3, but we can provide you with a donation receipt from the Salvation Army for your taxes, should you decide to donate. These donations are used for our raffle at the end of the poker run. We sell raffle tickets and give out your donations as prizes to the winners. All the proceeds from the raffle go toward filling more tags.
How the poker run works:
We will have Angel Tree Tags at each of the poker run stops; choose a tag(s) with the gift you'd like to buy, sponsoring TWO (2) Angel Tree Tags qualifies you for a poker hand, and each additional Angel Tree Tag sponsored will get you an extra card toward your poker hand. This RUN is open for ALL vehicles; anyone who'd like to participate is welcome.
Highest hand Pays $250.00, prizes awarded for 1st – 3rd place hands.
TCMC provides lunch at the end of the run by BBQing hamburgers and hotdogs paid for by the club, so if you would like to be the last stop please bare this in mind if you already provide food at your location. We rotate locations for stops, to give business to as many locations as we can.
We ask that all participants in the run sponsor at least one Angel Tree Tag to receive the lunch at the end of the run, since this Poker Run is free to participate in.
