Silicone Casting Workshop with Automara (3-Part Series)

This 3-part workshop introduces participants to the process of creating 3D forms and transforming them into wearable pieces.

Participants will learn the basics of how 3D objects are designed and produced, followed by a hands-on process of casting silicone using pre-made 3D printed moulds. The final step is integrating the silicone piece onto a garment, turning it into a wearable object.

Each participant will leave with a permanently altered piece of clothing that has been transformed through this process.

No prior experience is required.

Participants are encouraged to bring a garment they would like to upcycle.

• Fabric bags
• Mesh or lightweight garments

Workshop Flow
Session 1 - Casting (June 6th)
Introduction to how 3D objects are designed and printed (demo)

• Understanding how moulds are made and prepared
• Casting silicone using pre-made 3D printed moulds
• Choice of clear or black silicone

Session 2 - Integration (June 13th)
Demoulding and refining silicone forms

• Trimming and preparing the piece
• Permanently attaching silicone to a garment using adhesive
• Beginning transformation of the wearable piece

Session 3 - Finalization + Documentation (June 20th)
Final adjustments and reinforcement

• Trying on and assessing the piece on the body
• Exploring placement and movement
• Photo and/or video documentation

Participants will receive select edited documentation.

• A garment transformed with a silicone element
• Understanding of basic 3D design and production processes
• Experience with silicone casting
• A finished wearable piece
