THE MOVIE:
“For Heaven’s Sake,” stars silent comedy legend Harold Lloyd as J. Harold Manners—a carefree millionaire who loves to flaunt his fortune. But when he accidentally wrecks Brother Paul’s charity pushcart, fate takes an unexpected turn. Brother Paul uses the settlement to open the J. Harold Manners Mission—much to Manners’ dismay—until a chance meeting with Brother Paul’s charming daughter, Hope (Jobyna Ralston), changes everything. With love in the air, Manners hatches a hilarious plan to pack the mission with visitors. Lloyd’s first feature for Paramount Pictures, this 1926 gem was a box office smash in its day—and still delivers big laughs nearly a century later.
THE EVENT:
Organist: Clark Wilson
Emcee: Joe Thompson
Vaudeville: Doc the Rube, Wayne the Wizard, Duke Otherwise
NOTE:
Overture’s Duck Soup Cinema silent film series is nationally known for providing an authentic and rare silent film experience in the historic Capitol Theater, which opened in 1928. As these films were released nearly a century ago, some films may depict theatric and social conventions of the time related to race, gender, socio-economic status and identity which are unacceptable. In response to and in alignment with our justice, equity, diversity and inclusion commitments, we will be providing pre- and post-show resource material exploring key topics throughout the season. </wearing></because>
