LCO will collaborate with an exciting guest ensemble, the Warp Trio, in a music-based tale of “Brother Yasuke: The True Story of the Afro-Samurai” (written by Josh Henderson of the Warp Trio), an African slave turned Samurai. Spanning several musical genres, including rap, this narrated piece is a spectacular concert opener and a unique experience for audience members.
The season finale will also feature a favorite of LCO’s musicians: “The Planets” by Gustav Holst, an early 20th Century masterpiece that musically depicts the planets of our solar system, personifying each as an astrological character. This monumental work exponentially expands the size of the Louisville Civic Orchestra, emphasizing woodwind and brass sections.
For the final movement, the LCO will be joined by a group of faculty, students, and community singers from Bellarmine University’s Oratorio Society.
