Signal to Noise: Tastemakers & The Politics of Cultural Momentum
About this Event
Long before ideas enter institutions, they often move first through music scenes, parties, pirate frequencies, underground venues, and the people curating them. DJs, promoters, and tastemakers have become some of the most influential cultural agents of the modern era, shaping aesthetics, politics, identity, and collective emotion through sound.
This panel explores nightlife and music culture as a powerful site of cultural transmission. From punk scenes and rave culture to underground electronic music and community radio, we examine how sound communities create new ways of thinking long before the mainstream catches up. How do tastemakers influence what a city values? What makes certain scenes politically potent? And how do underground music spaces operate as laboratories for experimentation, resistance, and belonging?
