Sierra Vista ABC Hike Series: C is for Calaveras Fault Trail

This is a challenging hike for the experienced and dedicated hiker—but a worthwhile one for the stunning views and true nature experience. This trail has a couple steep drop-offs and climbs, with many up and drop rolling sections. We’ll hike through grasslands, chaparral, and mixed oak woodland habitats, to a lookout point that will take your breath away.

Hike details:

• Objective: Calaveras Fault Trail and scenic lookout
• Distance: 6.25 miles round-trip
• Elevation loss/gain: ~1110 feet (strenuous)
• Time to complete: 2.75-3 hours
• Please note there are no restrooms or water sources at Sierra Vista.

Dress appropriately! Sierra Vista can be breezy, particularly at sunset. Bring water, snacks, and a camera or cell phone if you'd like to take photos. For the return, bring a flashlight or use your cell phone flashlight app in case you need the extra light.
