The Advanced River Rescue Certification (RRC-ADV) course is specifically designed for someone who has already had river rescue training (or equivalent). This course builds on the the fundamentals of river rescue with more scenarios, additional scene management challenges, more complicated entrapment rescues, evacuation, and additional rope skills. This energetic, and physical curriculum will be challenging and focused on quick reaction time with a thorough understanding of options and resources.
This course will take place in class II / II+ whitewater. The RRC-ADV course is 16 hours and is entirely outside with ample water time. Any time not in the water, will be on shore, and active. Students should prepare for outside air and water temperatures appropriately. This is a dynamic and engaging curriculum and will require a full two-day commitment, plus a night operations mock rescue.
Students taking this course MUST meet the following general requirements:
- American Canoe Association (ACA) Essential Eligibility Criteria
- Formal swiftwater rescue course completed in the last 3 years. ACA L4 equivalent.
- Ability to access class II whitewater using wading, swimming, and live bait.
- Ability to perform knots and hitches, and basic vector-pulls and mechanical advantage.
- Ability to competently navigate class III whitewater.
- Ability to perform entrapment rescue using hands-on and rope techniques.
Students completing the course will receive a River Rescue Certification Advanced certification from Sierra Rescue International. Attendance doesn’t guarantee certification. Participation and skill demonstration required.
Sierra Rescue International River Rescue Certification is valid for 3 years.
Upon request this can also be an American Canoe Association ACA Level 5 Swiftwater Rescue course.
