About this Event
With European, Mediterranean and Arabic cultures all converging across an untamed territory of old vines, bucolic villages and one very active volcano, Sicily is an exciting place to visit. Did you know capers, olives, oranges, lemons, eggplant, pistachios and almonds, among many others, are grown in the wild? When the Phoenician's first arrived they called the area "Entorea" or "land of the vine", for its abundance of grape varietals.
In this tasting, we dive into Sicily's history and geography against a backdrop of 7 wines from Vittoria, Etna, Ragusa, Palermo and Marsala. Participants will be taken through a brief history of this island and its major players, while mapping out its unique geography from east to west. Special attention will be paid to the wines of Mount Etna in the northeast, and why this appellation is destined for greatness.
