About this Event

ShutterFly: Empowering Girls Through Photography

This 4-week session is a bi-annual program which aims to empower underrepresented girls of color by introducing them to the world of photography. Providing them with valuable photography skills, boosting their confidence, and encouraging self-expression. This program will partner with a local non profit organization, YES GIRLS CREATE, INC.

YES GIRLS CREATE, INC. is a nonprofit youth mentorship organization dedicated to uniting girls 8 - 18 years old through creative collaborative events. Hosting monthly labs where girls receive hands-on training and mentoring from adult women who creative positive impact in the community.

In collaboration with YES GIRLS CREATE, INC. , ShutterFly: Empowering Girls Through Photography will not only foster creativity but also opens up potential avenues for participants in the world of photography.

There will be a final exhibit and hardbound photography book which will be a collection of their work from this cohort which will serve as a tangible testament to their growth and achievements . Most importantly, each girl will walk away with their very own camera to continue their photography journey.

Program Highlights:

  • Expert Guidance: Learn from professional photographers including Stacy BE Photography
  • Creative Workshops: Participate in hands-on workshops and creative sessions.
  • Photography Challenges: Engage in exciting photography challenges and projects.
  • Mentorship: Receive personalized mentorship to help you grow as a photographer.
  • Each participant leaves the program with their very own camera.

Agenda:

Cohort 1:

  • July 13: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Orientation Session: Program overview and expectations, Introduction to photography, Meet and greet with mentors and peers; Basics of Photography: Understanding camera functions, Introduction to composition and framing
  • July 27: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Photography Techniques: Lighting and exposure, Focus and depth of field; Practical Session: Outdoor photo walk, Hands-on practice with cameras
  • August 10: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Creative Photography: Introduction to different styles (portrait, landscape, street), Exploring themes and concepts; Storytelling through Photography: Narrative techniques, Creating a photo series
  • August 24: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Editing and Post-Processing: Basic photo editing skills, Introduction to editing software; Final Preparations: Selecting and printing final images

Fostering a community of confident, empowered girls who can see the world from new perspectives and share their unique visions with others; paving the way for personal and professional success and the belief that their voice matters.
