At a young age, piano prodigy Shuteen Erdenebaatar has already developed a signature sound. Her classical background is strongly present in her expressive, melodic compositions. She grew up playing classical piano in Ulaanbaatar, the Mongolian capital, and she began her bachelor’s degree in classical composition at the age of sixteen. After that she followed her jazz education in Munich. As a twenty-something she has already won many prestigious awards, and her music has been performed by renowned orchestras.
With the album Rising Sun, Shuteen Erdenebaatar made her debut on the New York-based, Grammy-winning label Motéma Music. The response in the press was overwhelming—Downbeat spoke of a discovery and Bayerischer Rundfunk called it ‘simply a dream… music full of detailed beauty.’ In her current quartet, the pianist continues to play with double bassist Nils Kugelmann, who can also be heard on Rising Sun and the duo album Under the Same Stars.
