Mt. Pisgah hikes. Fun hike in the beautiful Mt. Pisgah Conservation Area east of Shrewsbury. Starts at 10 a.m. Choose either of two routes: seven miles or three miles. Friday night casual reception for classmates and their guests in the Sunroom of the Hyatt Place Marlborough hotel. 169 Apex Drive, Marlborough, MA 01752 (by Apex Place off Route 20 just west of I-495). 6 to 8:30 p.m. Pizza, salad, and cash bar. Start catching up with classmates after 50 years! Free (except for drinks), thanks to generous contributions of classmates. No printed ticket needed, but please sign up on the Tickets section of this Eventbrite event page to let us know if you plan to attend and whether you will bring a guest.

There are FOUR exciting activities to choose from on Saturday, September 24!

Tour of Oak Middle School. 45 Oak St., Shrewsbury. Tour of our former high school. Starts at 10 a.m. For details, please email Jay Sweet at [email protected]. Free. No sign-up on Eventbrite.

Spirit of Shrewsbury Festival. Also at the Oak Middle School. 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. This year’s events include a town expo (exhibits by town, civic, educational, religious organizations and businesses), chicken pageant, children’s costume parade, and a dog show. Free (except purchases from crafts booths). No sign-up; just show up.

Field trip to Polar Park and Canal District. 100 Madison St, Worcester, MA 01608. Starts at 12 noon. Join a tour WooSox of Polar Park, led by staff of the WooSox, the Triple A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. Afterward, Karen Kaletski Dufault will lead a brief tour of the revitalized Canal District. Dine at the New Public Market and perhaps grab a pie at Table Talk Pies on Green Street or a delicious treat at Queens Cups bakery on Water Street. And check out Birchtree Bread Company, Crompton Place, and Bedlam Book Café. Cost: $10 (payable to Karen in cash at Polar Park) + parking. Dinner at the Cyprian Keyes Golf Club. 284 E Temple St, Boylston, MA 01505. 6:30 – 10:30 p.m. This is the main reunion event. It will include a buffet dinner, DJ, photo booth, professional photographer (whose photos of us will be posted afterward on the Class of 72 website), music by the Jeff Lowe Band, and more! We also will invite some of our teachers as guests of our class. Seating will be in the club’s main dining room and in outdoor patios (with heaters). “Dressy casual” attire, please.

Ticket price per person: $81.20 ($75 ticket plus a $6.20 processing fee). Tickets available at the Tickets section of this event page. Tickets will not be sold after September 6, 2022. Breakfast buffet. The Hyatt Place Marlborough, 169 Apex Drive, Marlborough MA 01752 (by Apex Place off Route 20 just west of I-495). Meet at 8 a.m. No separate charge for those staying at the hotel. Others can purchase tickets for the breakfast at $13.30 per person ($11 ticket + $2.30 processing fee) at the Tickets section of this event page. Tickets will not be sold after September 6, 2022.

Parade. Join classmates marching in the Spirit of Shrewsbury annual parade behind a classic “50th SHS Reunion” banner! The route is between Oak Middle School and the old Beal School, 1 Maple Ave. (about 2.2 miles round trip). We are trying to line up some classic convertibles so that classmates who prefer to ride can do so -- and in style! Starts at 1 p.m. Free. Other useful reunion information.

Spouses and significant others. Spouses and significant others are welcome to participate in all reunion activities. For the WooSox tour, Saturday dinner, and Sunday breakfast, there will be a separate ticket or admission charge for the classmate and the spouse or significant other.

Covid statement. Please be vaccinated, do not attend if you are having Covid symptoms, and test negative before attending if you have had recent close contact with someone with Covid.

Refunds. Tickets purchased through Eventbrite will be refundable (except for the processing fee) until August 24 and, on a case-by-case basis, after that date. However, in the unlikely event the reunion is cancelled due to Covid, all ticket purchases, including the processing fee, will be refunded.

Hotel reservations. A block of rooms (10 with 2 queen beds, and 10 with 1 king bed) is being held for the reunion class at the Hyatt Place Marlborough hotel at $135 plus tax per night, for the nights of September 23 and 24. 169 Apex Drive, Marlborough, MA 01752 (by Apex Place off Route 20 just west of I-495). This preferred rate will be available until August 23, 2022. You should have received instructions on how to reserve a room at this rate. However, if you do not have them, please email Jonathan Levy at [email protected].

Other nearby hotels, all in Marlborough, include the Best Western Royal Plaza (508-460-4700), Courtyard by Marriott (508-480-0015), Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott (508-720-1500), and Hampton Inn (508-787-9888).

Sponsorship opportunities. Your committee wishes to organize a memorable, first-class reunion while not pricing out classmates of limited means. To accomplish this, we are asking those who can afford it, and wish to help, to underwrite certain costs of the reunion.

We are still asking for help to cover the cost of printing and mailing the reunion memory book, to assist those for whom the cost of the Saturday dinner will be a burden, and to cover the cost of hosting teachers at the Saturday dinner.

If you haven’t yet contributed, it’s not too late. You can be a hero to your classmates by writing a check or donating through this Eventbrite page! In doing so, you will be standing shoulder to shoulder with those who have already contributed and with members of your committee and other classmates, who collectively have already put in hundreds of volunteer hours to plan this reunion. Contributors can either be recognized or kept anonymous, as you prefer.
