The City of Des Moines is looking ahead to the fiscal year 2028 budget and shortfalls that will need to be addressed by cuts to operations and capital budgets. After the recent property tax legislation, a budget update is anticipated at the City Council Work Session on Monday, May 18 at 7:30 AM at the new City Hall (1200 Locust). At the same meeting, the Des Moines Public Library will provide an overview of how their work uplifts individuals and communities throughout Des Moines.As budget conversations begin in earnest, it’s important that Library Advocates show up in solidarity on May 18 and beyond to show the city we love our community libraries and we need them all to keep their doors open!
