PLAYING IN PERSON AT THE HUB, FRI. FEB 28TH, 7PM
MEMOIR OF A SNAIL
Running Time: 1hr 35m / Year: 2024/ Production: AUS/ Rated 14A
Director: Adam Elliot
Nominated for multiple awards including Best Animated Feature at the 2025 Oscars and winner of the Best Film Award at the 2024 BFI London Film Festival . It is one of our most anticipated films of the year! Please note that the film is rated 14A so not for young kids.
Visionary stop-motion animation director Adam Elliot returns ( Mary and Max , 2009) with a film eight years in the making - this is the bittersweet memoir of Grace Pudel - a hoarder of *snails, romance novels, and guinea pigs. Sad and hopeful at the same time, Memoir of a Snail is a beautiful testament to the power of friendship and resilience in the face of adversity.
**the Film Club would like to ackowledge that this is the 2nd film we've shown loosely related to snails - the first one was Marcel the Shell With Shoes On .
STREAMING SUNDAY - ONLINE - SUN. MAR 2ND - ALL DAY
THE ILLUSIONIST
Running Time: 1hr 20m / Year: 2010/ Production: FR/ Rated PG (ages 10+)
Director: Sylvain Chomet
Based on the final script written by the great French filmmaker Jacques Tati ( Monsieur Hulot's Vacation ) and brought to life by director, Chomet ( Triplets of Belleville ). This is the beautifully animated tale of a French magician (drawn to represent Tati who often appeared in his own films) who has seen better times. Forced to accept increasingly obscure assignments he ends up in Scotland playing fringe theaters, garden parties and bars, slowly losing hope until he meets a young fan who changes his life forever.
Winner of multiple awards including the New York Critics awards and French César for best animated feature.
