Choose a beautiful cabochon and learn to create a sterling and fine silver bezel setting for your new treasure. Students will learn to saw a whimsical design on the back of their pendant, letting the beauty of the stone shine through (the back will be almost as pretty as the front!). We will cover bezel setting, embellishing the front of the pendant with decorative wire around the stone, adding a bail (the part that holds the pendant on the chain), and so much more. This class is suitable for beginner and intermediate students.
You will need to return to the shop the next day (or book a different time) to set the bezel, if you want your silver to have a high polish shine. Otherwise, you can set the bezel on Saturday.
Instructor Barrie Edwards is a self-taught jewelry artist residing on the west coast of B.C., Canada. When she began her jewelry career over 25 years ago, there were very few formal classes in the area, and no internet so there was a lot of trial and error! And a big scrap bucket as well. "Practice, patience and perseverance" was her motto and before long she was selling at local markets and boutiques. After many requests from her friends and customers, she decided to try her hand at teaching metalsmithing classes and realized she'd discovered her true passion - sharing her techniques with others! She's been avidly teaching ever since!
Please note that this is a hybrid class with two instructors. Barrie will be joining us virtually, and Roxanne in person at the shop.
