Across saltmarshes, city skylines, and haunted wetlands, these shorts explore how birds connect us — to place, to history, and to responsibility. Together, they form a powerful meditation on how bearing witness to the lives of birds can inspire care, accountability, and collective hope for the habitats we share.
Featuring:
- Stories to Save Us: the Saltmarsh Sparrow (36 mins): A pair of filmmakers share their research and filming challenges while making a sequence on the endangered Saltmarsh Sparrow.
- Ghost Lands (10 mins, Zachary Garmoe): Follow herons, finches, and snow geese though hazy marshes and moonlit forests to trace the footsteps of Harriet Tubman and explore what it means for us to physically dwell with the ghosts of our nation’s past.
- Patched Wings (14 mins, Andrew McCabe): Every year in the United States, more than one billion birds die after colliding with buildings, which is an often overlooked crisis with profound consequences for ecosystems, biodiversity, and agricultural health. This short film investigates the devastating human impact of urban structures on our avian counterparts and highlights the vital work of City Wildlife and the American Bird Conservancy.
