About this Event
Shoreline Cleanup + Speculative Writing Workshop
This two-part participatory program begins with a community clean-up on Lake Ontario at Marie Curtis Park West. Guided by Jill Price’s practice of collecting and recontextualizing or upcycling shoreline debris, participants will help gather discarded materials and reflect on how processes of production, packaging and consumption impact shared ecosystems.
To build empathy and encourage imaginative engagement with environmental narratives, participants will then return to the gallery for a speculative writing workshop, in which they will be invited to write from the perspective of the objects they collected or from the viewpoints of the lake, shoreline, or other more-than-human bodies.
* Objects collected during the shoreline clean-up can be kept by participants or donated to the artist for future installations or to the gallery for use during the upcoming "Indigenous Engineering Lab" on Thursday, July 9th.
